I came across the talented Mondale centre forward Dillan Fransch when he scored 4 goals in one game and consistently delivered for his team during the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup. Dillan currently plays for Ajax Cape Town U19 and was hailed by the Head of Sundowns development Shawn Bishop as a great player. Dillan also played in the SA U19 team at the Durban U19 International Football Tournament after receiving a call up earlier this year.

Check out the interview below to see what plans he has for himself for the future and on how his career has played out so far.

What are your short term and long term goals in soccer and in life?
Dillan Fransch: My short term goals would be to make the grade in the PSL for my club and my long term would be to eventually play overseas and to help my family, especially my parents, to a better life.

When did your love for soccer start? How old were you?
Dillan Fransch:
I started at an earlier age, at 7 years of age and ever since then I never looked back. I always loved playing soccer, if I have a ball at my feet all my worries and stuff like that goes away so at an early age I loved soccer.

You just need to have perseverance and listen to the right people

What role do your friends and family play in your life?
Dillan Fransch: They play a very important role, especially my parents. They were at every game ever since I was young and they still do it if they can, if they have time they’re always there. And if it wasn’t for them I don’t think I’d be where I am today so they play a very huge role in my life.

Who’s your favourite player and why?
Dillan Fransch: I got two actually but I’d say Robin Van Persie cause he is a striker; I look up to him whenever he plays. We play a similar role so I prefer him and my other player would be Cristiano Ronaldo.

What’s your dream team that you’d like to play for?
Dillan Fransch: I would love to play for Manchester United one day because I grew up watching them, and my father he loves United ever since he was young, so I think it’s for obvious reasons I grew up watching them and the players they’ve brought in and let go, so ja.

What’s your motto in life?
Dillan Fransch: My motto would be to never give up, to always work hard. There’s no substitute for hard work and if you stay focused and determined, and focus on what you want to achieve in life I think it will come. You just need to have perseverance and listen to the right people and ja the sky is the limit for you.

work on your weaknesses as much as on your strengths

What's your message to kids that want to use soccer to change their lives?
Dillan Fransch: My message would be: if you have a passion for football, first of all you will go far but listen to your coaches, to the right people, and try and work on your weaknesses as much as on your strengths. And I think ja you will go far.

What's your routine? How any times do you train a week?
Dillan Fransch: For my club I train 4 days a week and we have a match on Saturdays and Sunday would be our rest day, and then it will carry on so 4 days in a week.

What are your thoughts on SA Soccer development tournaments like this one? (Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup)
Dillan Fransch: I think it’s a great initiative you know, there's lots of young talent out there that want to be exposed and it’s a great platform for them - a stage to showcase their true potential. It’s a great thing and I think it’s a great initiative.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Dillan Fransch: In 10 years time I'd love to see myself playing overseas if I carry on the way I am. You know, I'm working hard, performing well, being consistent, I don’t think anything will hamper me or my dreams but in 10 years time I think I'll go play overseas.

Is there anything you do to prepare for a big match? What’s your ritual?
Dillan Fransch: Not anything in specific you know, I try listen to music to calm me and not to think about the game too much and to be in a relaxed mode and just take it easy. When the match starts or before the match you need to switch on and just prepare and think about the game and what the coach has told you to do.

And lastly do you have a special lady in your life?
Dillan Fransch: I do have, I've known her for like 6 years and she's been my number 1 fan. She tries to be there for every game, she motivates me, she’s a motivation in itself and ja we have a good connection.

What’s her name?
Dillan Fransch: Her name is Clarissa Septoe.
