Athletics Records Tumble at KES vs Affies Meet

King Edward VII School hosted Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool on the 17 August for the 2nd Inter-School Meet of the season. On a beautiful highveld day the athletes did not disappoint and many a new record was set and broken by athletes from both schools.

Final points for the day

  1. KES 638 pts
  2. Affies 400 pts

New Records set by King Edward athletes

  • Emilio Despotakis u16 400m 49.41 sec (Emilio just now bettered the record in 3 consecutive meetings)
  • Dylan Petzer u16 110m Hurdles 15,34 sec (Equaled his previous record)
  • Napoleon De Beer u16 Shot Put 15,94 m (Beat Dylan Pieterse’s 2011 record by 20cm)
  • Menzi Mthembu u19 Triple Jump 15,13 m (This is the longest Triple Jump in KES history beating Cotter’s mark of 15,12 set in 2008)

Best Performance of the day:

Special mention must go to Manqoba Mbatha who scored an individual total of 26 points on the day. He won the u17 100m, 200m, 400m, Long Jump, placed 4th in High Jump and was a member of the 4 x 100m team that also won on the day. 

Congratulations to all the athletes and GOOD LUCK to TEAM RED as they welcome Pretoria Boys' High to King Edward on Saturday 24 August. Go School!
