KES Show Form at Affies Athletics Meet

This past weekend Affies hosted an athletics meet that featured the hosts Affies, Grey Bloem, PBHS, and KES.

KES’s Headmaster on his schools performance:

“King Edward sent a small squad of 24 athletes due to prior commitments of our other athletes busy in basketball, rowing, cricket and water-polo. Furthermore two of the schools exceptional athletes were unavailable due to prior commitments. King Edward VII School arrived with a relatively untested squad especially not knowing the talent of theU14 athletes, as athletics at this time of the year is ‘out-of-season’ for us. However we need to run this program as the boys need to compete in order to gain provincial selection."

"The boys excelled and it was great that we were able to participate. Although we sent a relatively small ‘red army’, we made our presence felt on both the track and in the field.”

The following KES athletes achieved notable success:

  • N Muluadzi U17 800m – 1st, 400m 2nd
  • M Mbatha U19 Long Jump 1st
  • S Freeman U15 800m – 1st, K Shellard U15 800m 2nd
  • B Skwasha U17 Long Jump 1st, K Masedi U17 Long Jump 3rd
  • B Skwasha U17 Triple Jump 1st
  • T Mpemvu U16 110m hurdles 3rd
  • T Letsoalo 1st 100m & 200m
  • T Smith 2nd 100m & 200m
  • D Curtis U14 1 500m 1st
  • K Shellard U15 1500m 1st, T Nxumalo U15 1 500m 2nd
  • M Shabangu U14 High Jump 1st (new record 1m75cm), 100m hurdles 2nd
