DHS Retain Title As St Johns Basketball Tournament Champions

Sun, 24/02/2013 - 17:33

Durban High School retained their title as champions of the St Johns Basketball Tournament by beating Pretoria Boys 55-51 in a close and hard fought final encounter. DHS started off on the front foot and applied pressure to the PBHS post and won a significant number of the offensive rebounds under the PBHS nets. The constant pressure and the individual skill of the DHS boys saw them lead 19-10 at the end of the first half and establish their dominance in the game.

The second and third quarter went much in the same direction as the Durban boys continued to control much of the court, and with their vast number of individual talent managed to produce some quality baskets.

The Pretoria based school was never completely out of the game and with their team work and great spirit eventually managed to force their way back into the game in the final quarter. In what looked like a story book comeback the PBHS constant pressure in the final quarter took the DHS side to the wire, but it was a case of too little to late as they lost by 4 points as the game finished 55-51 to DHS.
