Mon, 11/08/2014 - 14:41

The two match series between England and South Africa U19's concluded on Sunday 10 August. Both matches ended without a result despite each side having the advantage in each match. South Africa were in the driving seat in the 1st match, posting 433 thanks to a brilliant 149 by wicket keeper Grant Roelofsen. In response England declared on 352/9. With 1 day left to play, the South Africans used the occasion as batting practice as a result was not possible. The SA U19's added another 300 runs to draw the match.

England returned a different side in the 2nd match. England won the toss and chose to bat. The English U19's put 393 on the board for the South African to chase thanks to brilliant knocks by DP Sibley(99) and TP Alsop(77). The South African response was woeful, being bowled out for 77 thank to some enterprising bowling from the English lead by S Mahmood who took figures of 3/12. Mahmood dismissed danger man Roelofson, captain Makhanya and Andile Phelukwayo for ducks. Smelling blood, the English enforced the follow on. The 2nd innings from the South African went more to script as they batted their way to draw the match.
