Glenwood’s 1st XI hockey team continued their run of form when they beat St Charles College from Pietermaritzburg by 2-0.

Despite enjoying the majority of the ball possession and field territory, poor finishing in the D left the boys in green regretting some of their decisions.
Okuhle Cele opened the scoring for Glenwood in the 1st half when he deflected a pass into the D after some skilful work by Andile Phehlukwayo on the left hand side.

The remainder of the half went unrewarded even though the Glenwood unit played attractive passing hockey. Tanner Bottomley’s work rate and vision were noticeable on the astro as he controlled play from the centre of the park.
Shortly after the start of the 2nd half, the Glenwood offensive short corner team put together a well executed “German” to allow Phehlukwayo to convert and double the score.

Glenwood squandered numerous opportunities to extend their lead in the last 10 minutes but credit must be given to the St Charles defence who played with passion and put their bodies on the line.
Glenwood host Maritzburg College next week in what is expected to be a tough, fast and skilful game of hockey.
