14 Teams Still in the Race for Tournament Champion

Fri, 25/07/2014 - 09:02

The boys’ medals race sees SACS, Paul Roos, Wynberg, Rondebosch and London’s Kingston Grammar still in the semi-final race … in some cases much depends on what happens Friday.

For the girls it is not an easy pick, but Stellenberg, Bellville, Paarl Girls, Bloemhof, Parel Vallei, Pearson, and Paarl Gim plus Millfield and Wakefield are attractive teams to keep an eye on

. It must be pointed out that not all schools have played the same number of games.

General Impressions

“It’s been brilliant so far. The quality of play, the athleticism of the boys and girls, the youth of some of the players, it’s a great event in every respect.”

Former England and Great Britain international Matt Daly, who is managing London’s Kingston Grammar School side, is having a great time. “It’s been brilliant so far,” said the man who was in the GB team that ended fourth at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“The quality of play, the athleticism of the boys and girls, the youth of some of the players, it’s a great event in every respect.”

In the chat with Matt the conversation touched on, certainly, in some cases, the players are considerably below the Under-18 age group, some as young as U14, which is impressive in itself.

There’s also the fact that this event is about much more than just the hockey.
