Kearsney to Host Top Talent at Easter Rugby Festival

Wed, 13/02/2013 - 10:30

The Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival - one of the premier rugby festivals of the country - will begin on the 28th of March and host twelve of the top rugby playing schools around the country.

“We have another incredible line-up of talent participating in this year’s festival - and supporters will definitely not be disappointed. This is schoolboy rugby at its very best,” –Taff Green, Festival organizer.

With Sponsorship from Standard Bank, Illovo Sugar, and the Sharks Academy, this year’s event promises to be the biggest yet. The Sharks in particular are bringing a big benefit to players as they will be offering three full bursaries to selected players for 2014.

“From the Sharks Academy’s perspective, we are delighted with the quality of talented players who have joined us after school having come through the festival at Kearsney.  Many of these players are already achieving wonderful results at the Sharks,” –Hans Scriba, head of Sharks Academy.

Day 1's matches to look out for will be Glenwood vs Paul Roos, Paarl Gim vs Westville and Selborne vs Nico Malan. Day 2 on the other hand will bring the likes of Paarl Gim against host's Kearsney, Outeniqua vs Westville and Paul Roos vs EG Jansen. But the final day is set to be a spectacle as this year’s team to watch Outeniqua will be looking for victory against Grey College. Outeniqua will be in full force this year led by Geor Malan and will certainly be hungry to put their school rugby on the map. Duhan van der Merwe, Warrick Gelant, and Remu Malan are just a few players capable of making a solid impact in the Outeniqua squad.

There will be all to play for this year before players prep themselves for Craven Week and this year’s massive rugby season.
