DHL Western Province kept their perfect record intact despite a late scare, EP Kings moved into the top four and the Vodacom Blue Bulls gave the Loftus faithful something to smile about in the past weekend's Absa Provincial Under-19 Championship.

WP held out a strong finish from the Xerox Golden Lions at Newlands, winning 24-22, the Blue Bulls scored eight tries in a convincing 52-27 win and EP Kings got past the Toyota Free State in Uitenhage, winning 17-13.

Match summaries:

DHL Western Province 24 (17), Xerox Golden Lions 22 (8)

Western Province struck when when the Golden Lions had a player in the bin and scored twice in ten minutes. This gap proved a bridge too far for the visitors, who really fought back well in the latter stages of the match.

A late try by former Garsfontein High School winger Jade Solomons had the home side scampering to defend their unbeaten record and to their credit, they managed exactly that.

Scorers:

DHL WP (Under-19) 24 (17). Tries: Adriaan Carelse, Charlton Jonas, Dewald Naude. Conversions: Ernst Stapelberg (3). Penalty: Stapelberg.
Golden Lions (Under-19) 22 (8). Tries: Arnout Malherbe, Jade Solomons, Marnus Erasmus. Conversions: James Campbell (2). Penalty: Kobus Engelbrecht.

Vodacom Blue Bulls 52 (31), Leopards 27 (15)

In the Under-19 Absa Provincial Championship match played early on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld, the Vodacom Blue Bulls won 52-27 against the Leopards. They had a 31-15 lead at the break.

The Blue Bulls backline had too much space to run at and the visitors could not close all the gaps in time and five of their eight tries came from the high numbers on the back. Junior Bok Duhan van der Merwe scored a brace and now has crossed the opponent's tryline four times in the competition.

Scorers:

Vodacom Blue Bulls (Under-19) 52 (31). Tries: Calvonn Allison, Albert van Niekerk, Dimitrio Tieties (2), Duhan van der Merwe (2), Hanro Liebenberg, Jurie Linde. Conversions: Dewald Human (6).
Leopards 27 (15). Tries: Elden Schoeman, Lawrence Mabokela, Ray van der Lith, Roelof Scheepers. Conversions: Julian Delicado (2). Penalty: Delicado.

EP Kings 17, Toyota Free State 13

The EP Kings won their third match of the competition with a hard-fought win over the Toyota Free State in Uitenhage. Again some indifferent kicking cost the visitors, who had now dropped two results due to that.

The Kings did better in the second half, overturning a half time deficit to hold on for a good win that moved them into fourth spot on the log.

Scorers:

EP Kings (Under-19) 17 (7). Tries: Jeremy Ward, Luan Nieuwoudt. Conversions: Malcolm Jaer (2). Penalty: Jaer.
Free State (Under-19) 13 (8). Tries: Ox Nche, Tyron Goddard. Penalty: Andre Swarts.
