Very few Mamelodi Sundowns development players go on to become big stars in the club's first team.

They get promoted, loaned out and eventually sold to rival clubs. And some, like Keagan Dolly, are bought back by the club for millions.

I am ready for the challenge and I believe in myself

But Motjeka Madisha, a 19-year-old Sundowns development product, who has been appointed the national under-20 captain, believes he can defy the odds and become a regular in a side that is used to splashing millions to sign some of the most talented players in the PSL.

Even though one of his closest friends, Kwanda Mngonyama, has been loaned out twice already in two seasons to Bidvest Wits and Maritzburg United by the Brazilians, Madisha is not discouraged.

"I was with Moroka Swallows and then last season I went for trials at Sundowns and they liked me. I'm not scared. I am ready for the challenge and I believe in myself," said the Limpopo-born player, who has played for Sundowns' Multichoice Diski Challenge team.

"I don't want to play in the PSL for long, though, because I want to see myself moving to Europe at a young age."

The central defender added: "Kwanda is my best friend and he tells me about everything at Sundowns. We talk a lot and he tells me what to expect. I hope I can be part of the first team soon."

Madisha, who wants to play in the Spanish La Liga in the future, has an opportunity to shine in national colours when the national under-20 team, Amajita, take on a Qatar select team on Saturday.

Amajita flew to the Middle East last night. They travel to Russia next week to participate in a 12-team Commonwealth tournament as part of their preparations for the African Youth Championship in Senegal in March.
