Thu, 18/09/2014 - 16:19

The PMB High Schools FA Cup is now in it's 4th season and takes place this weekend (20 & 21 September) at Carter High School in Pietermaritzburg.

A number of players have taken part in the tournament and have since been signed by professional clubs

The tournament was started in 2011 by a group who wanted to promote high school football in the region. In that year, they had 8 boys teams taking part. This year, the tournament features 20 teams, including boys & girls schools. Honchos Flame Grilled Chicken has come on board this year as main sponsors to help with the cost of running the tournament and they are joined by the Sharks-AmaZulu Academy, which will be awarding a bursary to the player of the tournament to join the academy.

A number of players have taken part in the tournament and have since been signed by professional clubs, most notably Bandile Shandu of Maritzburg United (formerly Maritzburg College). Ryan Moon of Maritzburg College holds the record for the most number of goals (7) scored in the tournament in 2013.

There are certain to be a few more youngsters  to follow in these players' footsteps after the exposure of this tournament as the club scouts will be in watching keenly.
