Familiar Winner Takes 7th Consecutive Interprovincial Gala

Mon, 27/01/2014 - 14:38

This past weekend WBHS travelled to Gauteng to defend their title at the Alan Burt Interprovincial Gala.  The gala pits the top 5 Gauteng schools against the top 5 KZN schools. WBHS still felt that they had enough fire power to bring the trophy home again.

In the last few years, several schools in KZN and other provinces have concentrated on improving their swimming, none more so than St David’s, Pretoria Boys’ and Glenwood. Glenwood have a particularly powerful U15 age- group. The gala proved to be an extremely exciting affair with all the races decided in the last few metres.  WBHS  emerged victorious again by the end of proceedings, winning 19 of the 30 races on offer.

Their U14 age group proved particulary strong, and although their U15 team played second fiddle to Glenwood for the majority of the time, they did win 2 out of the 6 events. Glenwood managed to win 4 races, Pretoria Boys’  3, St Stithians and St Davids 2.

Westville Boys’ High School were without  their U19 star Daniel Ronaldson who is doing service for the SA Men’s team at the BHP Billiton Aquatic Series in Australia competing against  Australia, China, Japan and Brazil.

The full set of results are as follows:

  • 1st WBHS 287
