Reuben Schoeman from Glenwood High School has been selected to take part in the 2nd FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships 2014, held in Eilat, Israel from 28 – 30 August 2014.

Schoeman will be competing in the junior division (17-18 years for boys and girls). In the junior division, the boys and girls compete over a 7.5 km course. There is also a mixed-gender 3 km team event that comprises of 3 swimmers, either 2 boys and 1 girl or 2 girls and 1 boy. There are two age categories for the 3 km team event: 14-16 years in the youth division and 17-18 years in the junior division. For the team event swimmers can "swim up": that means a maximum of 2 swimmers from the 14-16 age category can swim in the 17-18 age group category with 1 team per Federation.

Reuben’s future goal is to make the Olympics in 2020 and to be placed in the top 10 in the 10km Open Water event. We wish Reuben the best of luck for his events.
