The fine run of South Africa’s only junior player in the Junior Australian Open has come to an end. Pretoria’s Ilze Hattingh bowed out in round three of the singles to Russian, Anastasiya Komardina.

Komardina, seeded 10, beat Hattingh 6-4 6-4. The left handed Russian troubled Hattingh throughout. Hattingh certainly had her chances as she had 11 break point opportunities but only converted one of the eleven.

“As disappointed as I am to have lost today, I am happy to have had a great run in Melbourne” said Hattingh following her loss. “I had my chances against Anastasiya but didn’t capitalize. Had I won some of the many break points I had against her it could have been a different result. But all credit to Anastasiya who was the better player on the day and deserved the win for keeping such good composure.”
