SA will face Turkey in this pool later this afternoon.

The South African U18 Water Polo team will play the host nation Turkey in the opening main match at the 2014 FINA World Mens Youth Water Polo Championship.

The South Africans group looks like this:

Group C
Brazil
Italy
South Africa
Turkey
Russia

The boys will have to play their hearts out against some of the worlds best water polo juniors from Italy and Russia. The SA team is filled with talent with the most experienced boys at the camp being Nick Downes and Dayne Jagga.

We had a few words with Head Coach Brad Rowe ahead of today's clash!

The team is very innocent and have no idea what to expect. Dayne and Nick have been before and are far more apprehensive. We play the hosts in the main opening match tomorrow night in front of a partisan home crowd.

How do you think you guys will fare in your group and what do you want the players to keep in mind going into this tournament?
Brad Rowe: We hope to win a game but we are in a tough group. We are the only amateur team here who paid their own way and have not played as a team, so it is going to be tough.

What example do you hope the more senior players (Dayne and Nick) will bring to the team for the juniors to learn from?

Brad Rowe:They will stabilize us when the realization hits of how good the rest of the world are and help us re-group for positional playoffs.

What preparation has the team gone through for this tournament?
Brad Rowe: We have trained as two groups in Cape Town and in Durban. In winter and in isolation, it's not easy but the boys are physically in good condition.

The boys are very excited and a little nervous but ready for the challenge that we have to face today! ~ Nick Downes - SA U18 water polo player
