The Trick to Making and Breaking Habits

Thu, 06/11/2014 - 15:45

When it comes to daily routines we are all creatures of Habit. Regardless of whether we like to go with the flow and leave a few things up to the universe, the daily rituals we have are all by habit. How we wash in the shower, dry ourselves, then dress and put on our shoes. Check yourself next time you are doing an everyday common task.

Three weeks to change a Habit

Our training and nutritional habits aren’t any different. If you want a different outcome, make different choices. As they say “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

All habits can be changed to new ones if we can just persevere and stick to them for 21 days. If you are trying to get rid of sugar from your coffee, slowly decrease the amount over the first week or so until after 21 days your taste buds have adjusted. Similarly if you want to change your commitment to training, set your alarm early, and make it happen!

Remember: never plan your training on the day. Always the day before and Commit to it happening!

once you can commit to your new regime for 21 days then it will become a habit

Trust yourself first

Create a plan for the habits you want to change or implement. Stick rigidly to them and if necessary get someone to assist you as a conscience. If you want to change your commitment to training, set your alarm, get up and make it happen. Yes it’s hard, any change is hard. But once you can commit to your new regime for 21 days then it will become a habit and a lot easier to continue! How can you possibly expect others to trust you unless you trust yourself to follow through with what you committed to yourself? See how things change in all aspects once you make a plan, commit, and see change.

If you fight for your limitations you get to keep them!
