Wayne Ferreira Tennis Tournament

Tue, 19/06/2012 - 00:17

Tennis players made their annual visit to Parktown Boys' High in Johannesburg to compete in the Wayne Ferreira Tennis Challenge

We were placed in a pool with King Edward School

Curro (a new entrant from Bellville in the Cape ) and St Stithians

On Thurday morning

the 03-05-2012 we started the round robin section with a match against St Stithians

which Glenwood took 9 - 0

The afternoon's match proved very challenging against Curro

who were eventually beaten 6 - 3

after some very close and arduously fought matches

King Edward was beaten 9 - 0 on Friday morning

placing Glenwood at the top of our pool

and qualifying the team for the semi finals

Last year, after reaching the finals against Stellenbosch Boys

both teams were disappointed by the fact that the finals match was rained out

The two schools thus shared the trophy for 2011

So it was with a great amount of satisfaction that the Glenwood players beat Stellenbosch in the semi finals

being the first to win 5 matches in the bout.

Saturday morning brought our second finals in a row aginst the hardest opponents we had so far encountered, Curro. The closeness of the strength of the two schools was evidenced when Curro reversed their fortunes of two days prior and beat Glenwood by reaching the goal of 5 matches won, first.
